you would think…
...that by now someone would have invented the odorless, tasteless, colorless version of children's tylenol and motrin, so that parents with willful children who have fevers could just slip it in the vast amounts of water they are requesting because they are feverish.
i mean, i do not know about anyone else's child, but mine is definitely not an idiot. he does not miss a beat, and is well aware that grape or bubblegum flavor is just a poor coverup for some vile tasting crap.
he is also pretty "anti" when it comes to bribery, the last resort, in this instance. despite a clown ice cream cone in front of his face, on his table ready to be eaten, and a choice of taking motrin in bubblegum liquid form or tylenol in grape chewable form, he refused. even got a little smartass about it when told, "you are not touching this ice cream until you take this stuff" - reached out his index finger to actually touch the cone. it was hard not to laugh, because i can totally relate.
i envision his fever being gone when i wake up in the morning. i envision getting a full whopping five or six hours of sleep tonight - something which has not happened for me the past two nights, and i push it just getting that little sleep on the normal. so, healthy happy little boy, and a rested, productive mom.
update: as i was writing this, he finally caved so he could eat his clown. i bet it feels good to eat some sherbert for him right now.

That is so funny. I love that he touched the ice cream. I would have done the exact thing.
I hope he feels better tomorrow.

well, i was woken up again at 3am, up for the rest of the day pretty much, if you don't count the pseudo-sleep i had from 5:15-5:45 when i had to hear my alarm clock.
so i was faced with the question of "do i take my child to the doctor?" this meant losing a full day of work and also paying the clinic out of pocket. i took him anyway. got there at 7:30, waited until 8:30, when i finally got in touch with melanie. she advised not bothering, with his symptoms being only a fever, and the fact that he was running around like a totally healthy child by the time we got to the waiting room, and had no fever, despite a 101 before we left the house.
i opted out. took him back home and did a half day. he seems to be doing much better, with a little wavering back into feverland.
i, on the other hand, am now thoroughly exhausted even with a two hour nap this afternoon. so it is rest up this weekend, work on my vision board - a collection of images and phrases i am taping onto the wall just above my computer - things i want to happen in my life. really fun to do.

he is doing much better. no fever since yesterday. we did have a hiccup on the bowel movement thing - i think he got a little dehydrated from the fever. that was resolved today with a tad bit of mineral oil and a lot of yelling (on his part) and breathing (encouragement on my part). thank maude.
