the cotton is high
i think have done a fairly wonderful job of enduring the heat this summer, but i am sufficiently ready for it to break. we have not had a heat index below 100 degrees all week. approximately one more month left of this, give or take a week. come on, cooper-young festival, my personal marker for the end of summer!
today we have mostly stayed inside, myself relaxing and trying to recuperate from a hard work week. our landlord came to fix the pipes under the sink because last night i barely brushed it with my arm getting something out from under there and a nickel-sized whole dropped out of it. later this week he will be back to fix the leaky faucet in the kitchen and the pipes underneath the sink in the bathroom... all good for the chi in this house, which could use to be completely gutted and rebuilt.
jah isaac has made some serious cognitive leaps the past few weeks. he is using verbs, making sentences. connecting the fact that 'hot' will 'burn.' instead of having to be coaxed into repeating words, he pours forth with phrases of nearly everything i say, which is a wake up call for me to watch my mouth. he even fell asleep by himself the other night, his head propped up on the pillow on the couch, a piece of apple in one hand. sometimes when i look at him i can see what he will look like in five years, in fifteen years.
this week we go to nashville with my mother to visit my brother colin and his wife audrey. i am so excited to get out of town for even two days - i have not been out of this city in nearly three years. i will be playing a gig or two while there and otherwise hanging out in my brother's backyard on the hammock while we grill out and let jah isaac run around.
