sixteen hours
the whirlwind trip was most fun! we left about 9am after kissing jah isaac as many times as possible and assuring him that we would return after his saying, "mom, please be back!" he was wonderful all day for Weezer and Nana Papaw, though he refused to go to sleep until about thirty minutes before we arrived at 1am.
we saw my brother for about an hour when we arrived and then went record shopping until the party started. we arrived and before we could get acclimated were thrown onto the tables for our two records apiece. this was disconcerting to me, especially since i had left my most important cd in the car. i flubbed one of the mixes, which sucked, but oh well. a lot of people showed up to play, many more than tim intended. it ended up being another four hours before the cycle repeated, but that time it went much better. playing two records at a time is such a tease. we will be going back soon for a longer visit and some pre-planned sets at a new saturday night thing.
it was wonderful to get out of town for a moment. nashville is, just as a said last year when i went, feeling good these days. we were mostly in the midtown area, which was alive with the energy of education from vanderbilt and belmont, and just a general funky and cultural vibe. the party itself was packed and filled with good energy and dancing and happy people. so nice to experience that since the house scene here feels pretty much dead. made me want to start something up again, just have to find the right place.
big thanks and gratitude for Weezer and Nana for taking good care of the little one, and to Sharon for graciously letting us use her car.
