pro-child, pro-family, pro-choice

i don't usually get political on this page, but i am realizing that it is time for such a thing. being a woman in this country is very scary right now. from the day Bush set foot in office he has been chipping away at the rights of women in this nation, and worldwide. i have many resources on this, but no time to reference them this moment. i will come back and edit with them.

that main point of this post is to thank governor Blagojevich of Illinois. he set forth an emergency rule requiring pharmacists to fill all birth control prescriptions. see, they had been refusing to do so, on the basis of conscience. he said:

“Our regulation says that if a woman goes to a pharmacy with a prescription for birth control, the pharmacy or the pharmacist is not allowed to discriminate or to choose who he sells it to. No delays. No hassles. No lectures. Just fill the prescription.

Funds removed from overseas well woman clinics which also happen to perform abortions, "partial-birth" abortion bans, and now concerted, organized (admittedly) efforts by pharmacists to prevent women from preventing pregnancies!

The gall of these (overwhelmingly) men amazes me. Who do they think they are? They must think deep down that we women have no brains, no sense, and thus that they must decide what is best for us. What's funny (read: heartbreaking) is that they leave no recourse whatsoever! They want abortion to be illegal, birth control to be refused, yet they also refuse to provide informative sex-education, opting for abstinence-based programs in nearly every state.

Some part of me feels as if it is all based in fear. Fear of the inherent creativity that women embody. The power of life can be an overwhelming thing, and to have (perceived) control over it might give those who are afraid some (false) sense of security. Let women keep control over their bodies, and their lives, and lord just knows what might happen to this great nation! (/sarcasm in case you can't tell.)

Simply put, to use a well-coined phrase: Keep your laws off my body!
