much-needed meditation and exercise
the past two mondays i have attended my friend Arline's yoga class. and let me tell you, this girl can work it out.
maybe it is because i have done little yoga over the past few years, and never had a regular practice, but wow was i sore last week. and i can tell i am about to be a whole different kind of sore for a few days this week. mind you, it is a good sore.
from now on i plan to wear my wrist, and possibly, my knee braces to class. i think i will feel a little more supported in those poses where the arms support the entire body or the ligaments in my knees give me acute pain.
i am also saving up for a private session, so watch out Arline! i need some help with that knee plant in the underarm thing - my brain cannot get wrapped around that, nor have i been able to just let it go.

Don't worry, sometimes things just click over time. The instruction can sound a bit mind boggling at times because it is subtile and intricate. Sometimes I explain the more sublile aspects more than others. There is a lot to talk about in yoga, and there are many layers. (that is one reason I find it so interesting)
With regard to your wrist, it could be that some basic strengthning is needed, and that will come with practice. It could also be about weight distribution, there is all kinds of bablnce and counter balance to consider, and you may be falling into your wrist, rather than using your whole palm. and even your finger tips. A common thing that people do is either muscle thuough, relying mostly on their arms, rather than their core. I will explain more when I see you.
It may be a good idea to have support for your knee for a while. Tell me where the issue is, and I can think of things for you to do to help support and strengthen it.
I am actually going to go practice now.
More later

i have definitely been collapsing into my wrist and trying to rely on my arms. your mention of using even the fingertips makes a lot of sense.
as far as my knees, i am not exactly sure what is wrong with them, and has been for years. they ache most of time, but what happened last night was an acute pain, which happens sometimes as well. it definitely felt like something ligament-related and i have had that happen many times before. going down the stairs, trying to stand up from the floor, even during a massage i have literally jumped off the table from something like that - not good. i will show you where on my knees that happens next time i see you.

well definitely figure it out. I am just glad you're jumping in. Last night (I noticed) it was in the back bend, towards the end of class, Did it hurt at any other part of the practice?
Knees are not so forgiving. They require a lot of patients, and time. We have lots of that.
