mom goes for heart cath next week

After a Thalium stress test (which showed no change) and a Cat Scan of the Arteries (which gave the information needed), it appears that one of the grafts done during my mom's triple bypass is now "occluded." In other words, one of the arteries that they created out of a vein from her leg is now clogged, which is probably the cause of her increased chest pains and need to use her nitroglycerin.

So, she will go in for a heart catherization early next week. This first involves getting her off of her blood thinner for at least five days, during which her blood will be thinned by shots every twelve hours. They will go in and take a look around, and figure out what to do.

It does not make sense to my brain that they would put a stent into an already disfunctional piece of graft. Apparently, there is a possibility that the artery they were originally trying to fix can somehow compensate, and they can maybe put a stent into it while they are doing the catheterization. If not, then they will have to do another open heart surgery. We just wont know until they get in there.

The whole thing is in some ways more nervewracking than the last time, I think because I have the experience of seeing my mom in that position. Nothing in my life has ever been so shocking. Plus, I have more responsibilities this time, but that i will only worry about if necessary. Simply put, I do not want them breaking her open again.

You prayers and healing thoughts are welcomed, if you have them to spare.
