liquid lounge
last night i played some records at Liquid Lounge at a weekly thing some guys here throw. i love that little venue because it is a small little shotgun, it is dark, and it has this smell to it that makes me feel like i am going to a basement party. the sound could be improved, but otherwise the setup was good. apparently they have had the deejay up in the booth, but folks requested the rig be down on the floor, which suits me just fine.
there was a tag team before me that was harder house and breaks. when they turned it over to me the bpm was 137. i considered just killing it and coming in at 120, but i could tell the crowd would not hang, so i dropped it a little and mixed in a breakier track, and over the course of about thirty minutes got down to 118. i still lost some people, but there were a few strong on the dancefloor (read: 3 or 4) that made the night worth it to me. there were also a few heads that i saw throughout the place that i could tell were enjoying it, despite the fact that they weren't dancing, and a couple of friends i was very glad to see.
at some point i had a group of about four guys come up, maybe 18 years old, all about my height and all straight out of an abercrombie and fitch catalog. they were simply amazed by me, not my music, but the fact that i am a female. i found this slightly amusing, until they leaned on my table trying to get me to go "wicky-wicky" and started making my records skip, in the middle of a mix. go away, little boys! i don't wickywicky and this isnt about my gender!
overall a good night. i danced to two drum and bass tracks after my set and then went home and crashed before i even made it to the shower, waking up today to the beginning of the full brunt of summer, sweating.
