how do you…

make a precocious 21 month old, Aries little boy sit still? and this while having electrodes taped to his head?

my plan:

1. Weezer, his favorite person in the whole wide world, my mom. she will be picking us up and taking us this morning. this bodes well for us since jah isaac walks through the house all day saying "weeeee - ber," requests for me to call her at least five times a day, and generally is beside himself with this love his gramma showers on him.

2. picking up a never-before-seen toy on the way, and

3. a couple of lollipops, which he never gets and may actually stun him for a moment or two.

so, let us hope that we can experience enough stationary time to determine that everything is perfectly normal with my angel's brainwaves.

let me say, very clearly, that that whole experience just Sucked, with a capital S, and if i had the energy, periods between each letter.

i had to lay on top of the poor angel most of the time they were putting the electrodes on, which took about 40 minutes. then we had to miraculously calm him down before they could do the readings. the lollipop worked, bigtime, but not until she had stopped messing with his head.

i am so beat now. just scrape me up off the floor in time to go to the neurologist in a few weeks.

I distinctly remember having this procedure done to me as a kid. How I can remember that far back, I don't know, but I remember it as if it happened yesterday. Lying on the table, getting the electrodes put on, the cold feeling, and asking if they were sticking something inside my brain. For years afterwards, I would remember back to that day when I was 3 and imagine that they had actually poked my brain with the electrodes and hooked me up to a machine that made me control a bunch of pens. Glad you got through that one.

man, i really hope he does not remember one moment of that.
