he saves the day

just as i get off the phone with my awesome mother (after being counseled by her because i was having one of those moments where i felt like i was not doing a very good job at mothering - yelling, being impatient, being so busy researching music, networking, phone calls, etc, etc, etc), isaac and i are in his room.

i keep my shoes in his closet, and i was attempting to walk through his room without busting on a toy. it is fairly clean in there but he dumped all of his markers out, so i was walking gingerly through the maze. he looks down and around and puts his hands on his hips and says, "what a mess!"

so i say, "well perhaps you could pick those up, or maybe at least push them all into one pile."

to which he answers, "well, see mom, i kinda like my toys to be in a mess. i like them better that way."

i am quite sure i gave a resigned sigh - the one that expresses that this is really an extremely small battle to worry about - and said, "ok honey, but we will need to straighten up tomorrow."

he looks up, walks over, spreads his arms and wraps them around me and says, "i love you way more than i love my toys, mom!"
