good times…

last night i had a last minute booking for a friend's party. it was the anniversary of Live From Memphis. my friend Chris, who was a very early supporter of all of us househeads, asked me friday evening if i could play, and offered to pay babysitting.

i agreed, because i love Chris, and i have not been out of the house much, much less deejayed, since new years eve. so i gathered what i needed for my system, and he had the PA. i had Brianne come over, which thrilled Jah Isaac to pieces. he literally asked me all. day. long. when Brianne was going to be here. "we are going to have lots of fun while you are gone, mom!"

another reason i was happy to play is that this location, Chris' house, is where some of the seminal house parties in this city were thrown, known as the "pizza hut" parties, because his space is a two story loft above what was once Pizza Hut at Madison and Main Street. i worked the door of those parties, and we charged one dollar.

if people did not honestly have a dollar, i asked them to dance or sing or otherwise express how much they would love to be a part of what was going on inside. i always let them in. one night it was so packed out and brad was in the middle of playing Todd Terry's Can You Feel It, and the cops came in and shut us down. the cop walked off to the door, and brad turned it back on full blast before she could even get half way through the room. the crowd roared, and i am surprised we did not get arrested. she was pissed!

anyways.... enough of memory lane. Chris has finished out the space and put in kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, and office... but it is still wide open and spacious, with the whole bottom level being open, plants everywhere, huge windows and sparkly christmas lights lining them. i was set up on the top floor overlooking the bottom, which i usually do not like. this night it was ok, because that bottom floor was filled with the best dancefloor i have had in a while. people getting down to house music and even some really nasty broken beat. i had a good time, even with a home speaker as a my monitor! hah!

gosh i love music and dancing so much - it makes me so, so very happy.
