celebrate in whatever way you want

jah isaac and i talk a lot about god. well, he asks a lot, so we end up talking about all kinds of things. today we were driving and he saw a church and asked me what a cross was. i told him that it is a symbol of christianity, and he said, "a symbol of what?" so, i simplified the best i could and told him that it is one of the symbols of god, and that in this case it indicated a church.

"what's a church, mom?" (he always does this deep life question thing when we are driving.) i told him it is a place that some people go to worship god. and he asked what worship meant, so i tried to simplify it again and said it is a place that some people go to celebrate god. he got that.

he asked if that was the only place and i told him no way - that there are all kinds of ways to do that celebration. like singing, dancing, running in a field, and so on. he asked if he could go to church when he is "grown up" and told him i would take him to all kinds of churches(synagogues, mosques, dancefloors, whatever) when he is a little older, and he can check them all out for himself.

he asks very good questions. i hope that my answers provide him with a positive and open-minded perspective.

sounds like he's a natural little unitarian universalist in the making!
