milestone

today my little boy started kindergarten.

wow.

he was sooooo big. and sooooo little at the same time. such a bittersweet day.

he got up and ate a tiny bit of food that i forced him to ingest. he does not like to eat early in the morning, especially on a time limit. he still likes to graze all day. then he got dressed by himself (which he had been practicing all week), with exception of socks and shoes. we packed everything up, and met his dad out in front of school. we walked him in, met the teacher, and he was already being polite and raising his hand when he wanted something. such a little man.

the lead up to this event has had me a bit bothered. i have been working tons on a film project, and have been feeling disconnected from isaac. he has also been acting out a lot, really giving me a lot of resistance in the last month or so. lots of changes. i truly hope that i have prepared him for what new journeys he will be taking, beginning with this one. mostly i can think about the things i could have done better, but i must have faith that my intent will come through.

when i picked him up, the teacher said that "he had a good day." as we rode in the car and ran some errands, i asked him a bunch of questions. he really enjoyed "playtime" but then said, "moooooom, i don't want to talk about it!" he was sleepy and cranky because he is sooooo not used to getting up early, much less going to bed early. that will change, as well. i love that he can and does express to me that he does not want to talk, because that is an essential skill in life.

i will post a photo of him grinning on my front porch this morning, lunch box in hand, once i get a moment to breathe. i.e. - possibly next sunday, when shooting wraps - but hopefully before.
