albums i have been enjoying
bugz in the attic - back in the doghouse
these guys have been all over the place for the past few years but this is their first album release. it is wonderful. funky, hard, emotional, unexpected. influences from lots of great music such as prince and old soul, and at essence just totally felt, if that makes sense.
alice russell - under the munka moon 2
she is a great singer who has perfect lyrics and tons of soul. you would think she is out of the seventies at points, but also completely down with the current. great downtempo album.
gnarls barkley - st. elsewhere
this is topping the charts and not new news, but i must say this album is amazing. c-lo sings his heart out and the eclecticness of the instrumentation is refreshing. lyrically stunning as well, in my opinion.
the broken keys - gravity
soulful and funky, with a rock edge. by rock i mean sixties cream-esque type stuff. also hip hop elements with great lyrics, and some dancefloor grooves. great all around listen. refreshing stuff, very live.
coldplay - a rush of blood to the head
ok, yeah, i know. i am way behind on this band. i pretty much just discovered them last week and have had trouble taking this album off repeat. such emotional vulnerability. and despite it being rock, it is piano and vocal driven. reminds me of pink floyd at points with its spaciness. just truly an amazing piece of work, worthy of some tears. looking forward to meeting with the rest of their material.
